Today on lifehacker Stewart Rutledge wrote How to beat a speeding ticket (or at least better your chances), and I find the advice given obnoxious. I am disappointed that Gina and the lifehacker team would endorse this behavior.
We all pay our local police’s salaries, so if you break the rules own up to it and pay up. If you don’t like the rules have them changed, but don’t be a burden on us all.
Jared, in response, provides the best advice, don’t speed.
Consider the cost to everyone in salary of the recommended steps to:
- Phone the officer
- Write a letter to the officer
- Meet with the officer
- Call and write the judge and/or prosecution
- Delay your trial, as often as you can
- Go to trial
- Write more letters
Consider the cost in time to yourself?
