Why does WordPress treat spam comments nicer than other moderated comments?

I think I just accidentally deleted a comment in WordPress moderation. The irony struck me, that if I had accidentally marked it as spam, then I could have rescued it from the Spam queue.

WordPress lead developer Mark Jaquith has proposed adding Undo functionality which I think is very important!

Mark says this idea was inspired by Robert Hoekman, Jr. book Designing the Obvious, but today I see this may have already been germinated with WordPress Idea: ‘Replace “dumb-user” confirmation dialogs by GMail-like Undo links‘.

Would the trash metaphor also be useful for deleted posts and comments? I didn’t find any related ideas, so maybe it is just me. I wonder, but I think the first gate is getting undo functionality.

Check the hackers list. I mentioned it there many moons ago :)

Feb 2006 “Data Recovery” is the hackers thread.

Mark R, I am sure you have! Hopefully, WordPress has matured to where it will have some legs now.

I suggested this one around last year, the first time I accidentally deleted something. It makes sense to me that it would just go to a recycle bin thing and you could republish it later.

At least the link on delete post turns red now. That could be a quick add-on for delete comment if it doesn’t already do it.

I completely and wholeheartedly concur and agree.

    And I think it’s a good idea too. :-)

I hope this gets taken care of by the time I switch over… Deleting useful things definitely sounds like something I’d do.

That is a great idea! I have done the same thing several times with my junk mail box. As I am going through it instead of hitting that delete button, I hit the empty botton and everything is gone. Plus there is no undo button so if there was anything incorrectly sorted as junk mail, it is forever gone.

There has been the odd swear word out of my mouth for this problem and am +1 for that proposal for sure.

Every program should have an undo option. It certain would have save me a lot of grief. I’m not aware of any PHP scripts that have this feature. I’m not sure how it would be done, but I’m not a coder, just a fiddle around with the code-er :)

I accidentally delete comments all the time! Maybe I should get in the habit of marking them as spam instead…?
