Unzip.ca

We tried Zip.ca for a couple of months, and were disappointed by the service.

It seems Zip.ca has a lot of problems some there own, and one significant one beyond their control.

The Zip.ca pricing is just that much higher and the offerings that less flexible that Julia and I were already not as excited when we signed up.
Although, unlike Kevin we did not have “3 weeks of skipping past the top 5 on the list”, we did have two DVDs that skipped when trying to watch the movie. I think we only experienced that once in 9 months of Netflix service, and they shipped a replacement disk right away, no questions.

No questions? Zip.ca pretty much wants you to file a police report before reporting that you have not received a movie. With Netflix it was a click, and a replacement movie was sent right away. With Netflix the missing movie always eventually arrived and it was simply a matter of putting it back in the mail, and I felt good about the service.

My guess as to their biggest problem is that Canada Post is a lousy partner. I did not realize this until spending a year in a California where mail is picked up several times a day and delivered promptly Monday though Saturday.Elizabeth Towel’s experience of “five days for one disk to be shipped to you” matches my own to here in Victoria, BC. That is too long.

Quitting was influenced by my annoyance at the lack of personal service. There was a billing problem. I received a robotic email saying that my credit card payment did not go through, but not what the problem was. I went to the site, everything looked correct, but I thought I better do something so I re-entered the information. I buy quite a bit online so I was pretty sure the problem was not on my side. Next day, the support ticket status was that the issue was resolved. By a couple of weeks later I have returned all the movies that I had out, and had not received any new movies. Checking the web site, no new movies have been sent, but no indication that there is a problem. I phone and find out that their is a problem with my credit card payment, doesn’t know why, but they can try it again over night. Next day, still no movies sent. I call again, they did not try to bill me again over night, now they can try right now, and it works. Thanks, can you cancel my account. Nope, but I can walk you through doing it yourself on the web.

Based on my own experience, I am not surprised that I have not received one positive comment on my previous post about trying Zip.ca .

It was a joke that I received an email titled “Account Deactivation Followup” — who talks like that? — considering I was on the phone with Zip after I cancelled the service, and was not asked any questions “live”.

Is there something that Zip.ca can do that would encourage you to reactive?

Reactive?

Done. Cancelled. Unzipped.

I think Zip is more concerned with taking out full page ads in the Vancouver Sun than actually providing decent service!

Good for you for quitting. As for me, because I live on a rural island, I’m pretty much stuck with ‘em…

Good riddance to bad service! And lousy “customer service” Good thing you quit using them. Even better that you’ve told of your experience…so that others can avoid them ;)

I subscribe to Zip.ca’s service, and while I had a few bumps and bruises services-wise when I first started using them, after they knew I wasn’t just signing up to steal a few DVDs during a trial or the first few weeks, they were nice as hell. I’ve only had one wrong DVD come since then, and they gave me a free rental because of it! :D

So far, nothing but good has come from my signing up with Zip.ca. I havn’t received any wrong or defective DVDs and they seem to ship em fast and furiously. I’m very happy, and surprised that other’s aren’t.
I really enjoy that if you don’t get your most wanted DVD, they ship you extras past your limit. It’s a nice touch, and much cheaper than going to Blockbuster a few times a month.
