When I say “Just want to ask you a quick question…” who am I trying to trick? You or myself?

Further, it is often neither quick nor a question, just a long comment.

Luckily for me, when others say this to me it has almost always been a question. A question that the person knows is either not quick or there is a better time, person or process to ask the question.

Don’t get me wrong, I like people asking me questions, I just find the use of “quick question” prophetic.
