The email’s subject read “Grand Opening: The Apple Store, Pacific Centre.” and there is a prominent Get Directions button, but I’m not sure they would have sent it to me if they had considered where I live (if it was a person manually sending the invites). It’s a Google estimated 2 hours 47 mins “drive” includes the 2hr $55 (car included) ferry ride. I’m impressed Google Maps is able to give directions which include “Take the Tsawwassen-Swartz Bay Fry ferry to Tsawwassen”.

It opens this Saturday, May 24th, at 10:00am. Did every Apple subscriber in Canada receive this email? Maybe only everyone in BC? Only people with less than a $100 ferry ride? It’s strange to me that Vancouver isn’t mentioned in the email.

It is fantastic that Vancouver is getting an Apple store! It is the 5th Apple Store in Canada. All the others in Canada are at least 4hrs by plane in central Canada: 3 of them in Toronto and the other in Laval, Quebec.

Miss604 has all the info including this may be the place to meet the person of your dreams. Duane Storey hopes to get some newly announced products there in June after the Apple Developer Conference. And Phillip Jeffrey is thinking of camping out for the opening — I’m hoping he really means get out of the city and go camping this weekend, the weather is awesome!

I look forward to drooling in there sometime soon on a trip to Techcouver!

Update: John Biehler’s “We can haz Apple Store in Vancouver” has some brilliant photos from the launch, and it’s a good read.

Boris Mann and Danny Robinson have started a technology startup incubator called Bootup Labs in Vancouver.

Boris is a dear friend. Danny I recently met and was very impressed by. Their backers — well, Boris says they aren’t a fund, but it is safe to say they are very well connected in Vancouver and aboard.

When putting together a startup people tend to be most concerned with securing the $$. But there’s so much more to a startup than getting the seed money.

These guys will help you find the funding to take your product/service and turn it into a business. But what you will discover along the yellow brick startup road is, if you don’t want to wind up crushed by your house or enslaved by the wicked warlocks of the West, you need good advice, good advisors.Even if you already have the funding you need and know what you are doing, access to the best advisors is invaluable:

What we’ve been looking for is the wisdom of a very special entrepreneur who’s been through what we’re going through. Someone who sees things a little differently and makes us feel right at home. Someone with a long term outlook, not a build-to-flip mentality.

If I was putting together my own startup, I would ask, beg, plead, literally do everything possible to get Boris to be an advisor. With Bootup Labs that is part of the package.

Back in November, Boris let me in on some of the details of the “package” (and there sounds to be a lot more than just a package here. Lots of dynamic elements specific to each startup’s unique needs), but it isn’t my story to tell, so subscribe to Bootup Labs blog. What I want to know is how he will balance this and his role as VP Product Development for Raincity Studios — I know he will find the time, but I want to know his secrets
