Or so they all tell me. Does it really ever take 10 days?

A big part of my strategy against my tech frustration is simplification. One of the things I’m doing is removing myself from mailing lists. Unsubscribing from a VMware marketing email list, the response email was:

We are writing to confirm that you have chosen to opt-out of receiving all marketing information from VMware. Please allow 10 business days for this change to take effect. You might receive email communication from VMware during this time as we update our database.

What is so broken about their databases that it could take 10 business days for VMware to update their database?!

Although, I imagine it is some default form response, as I get similar response emails from other services, and I don’t expect to receive any emails, it does make me wonder.

In the sea of similar brainless responses, turning it around they might have even created a small opportunity:

We are writing to confirm that you have chosen to opt-out of receiving all marketing information from VMware. Powered by the very same enterprise virtualization solutions we sell, we have immediately updated our database. You will not receive any more email communication from VMware.
