(without prestigious )With reference to previous Emails so I see that your solution was to ban me complicity , firstly thanks as this blog had no adds on it , you have given me the ammunition to go forward in a legal fight which I doubt, I would win, but in English courts to sue under £5000 , You can not recover costs

Those numbers get me far more excited than page views and other “monetization” stats, because these right now front page stats reminds me blogging works.

These stats are about people expressing themselves (writing words) and connecting with other people (commenting).

These are the numbers I look to when I need inspiration.

Today, people all around the world are celebrating that five years ago today the first version of WordPress was released!

Of course, most people’s celebration is limited to Happy Birthday WordPress posts. It’s awesome reading them; most posts (subtlety) demonstrate the authors own participation in WordPress. We’re all the developers of WordPress!

Having only used WordPress the last 3 years and only having been really involved the last couple of years, it is humbling to reflect that it has been 5 years. There is a special spot in my heart for those that worked on WordPress before anyone cared, that first year, those participants with the foresight and perseverance to build on a open source foundation to establish the greatest web publishing tool, WordPress!

I found a gem of a blog the other day, Darth Mojo. It is written by BattleStar Galactica Visual Effects Designer, Adam “Mojo” Lebowitz. The blog’s tag line is “the dark chocolate side of the force”. As well as in depth BSG insider info, he geeks out on Star Trek, Star Wars, and all things sci fi.

Every day I’m surprised again by the incredible experiences, knowledge, creations, and collaboration people are sharing online. I can’t help be proud that WordPress and WordPress.com are so often the publishing platform.

Mojo’s about page reads:

Naturally some of what you’ll find here is related to what I do all day, which is essentially make spaceships fly around and explode. I’ve worked (if you can call playing with spaceships work) as a Visual Effects Supervisor and artist on projects such as the legendary Babylon Five, the not-so-legendary Star Trek: Voyager and, currently, the soon-to-be-legendary Battlestar Galactica.

If you’re a fan of any of these shows, check back often since I plan to dust off my personal archives and share all kinds of never-before-seen goodies with you. I may even take some memory-enhancing drugs and see if I can finally get down on paper all the interesting, wacky and downright flabbergasting experiences I’ve had over the years. If I do my job right we may even get a few cease-and-desist letters!

Wow, he demonstrates his (racy) wit! His articles live up to the promise of both being fun and providing unique perspective — not to mention the many original images.

A month and a half old, Darth Mojo started with an geektastic adventure in New York (he has an article dedicated to the NYC Best Buy). He has written about many geek entertainment movie events: Iron Man. Indiana Jones, Speed Racer, and Star Wars birthday. I’ve enjoyed the most the posts about Star Trek and GSB, and hope posts on Babylon Five are coming.

His post this past Tuesday “BSG VFX: “Guess What’s (not) Coming To Dinner” has shots from the BSG episode that were cut and an original video.

His most recent post “The Best Star Wars Movie You’ve Never Seen” is about independent (“fan”) edits to the first two Star Wars Prequels by professional film editor Mike J. Nichols. Mojo writes

“Attack of the Phantom” is easily the best prequel movie to date, and I cannot recommend strongly enough that you track it down.

Check out Darth Mojo!

Greta Van Susteren’s, the host of Fox News On the Record, GretaWire is a fantastic combination of blogging and social media.

In “So we asked some bloggers” I wrote I really enjoyed seeing in 2007 an ever increasing number of people self-identify as bloggers and giving their own meaning to the term. I’m looking forward to even more diverse and expressive uses of blog, blogging, and blogger in 2008.

Greta uses video, audio, and prose in a very real and active conversations with her audience — conversations often feeling like it is in real time, live. The content alternates between detailed insights and pithy commentary. The result is over half a million comments since the blog started last August at part of our WordPress.com VIP program.

Greta regularly has posts with titles of “open thread” or “comment here” and regularly writes “blog away”. I remember reading a post that read something like “we are all adults, we don’t need comment pre-moderation”. Wow, that is a powerful sentiment.

The round the clock posting and commenting does make me a little concerned that Greta doesn’t get enough sleep But I’m impressed that Greta is doing interesting and important work in making journalism personal. She is doing an amazing job of providing an opportunity for her audience to participate and collaborate, making the news a more personal experience.

Update: I’ve received a number of comments writing to Greta. Please go to Greta’s blog, GretaWire, to give her feedback. Thank you.
