Survival: The rule of threes

  1. You can survive for three weeks without food
  2. You can survive for three days without water
  3. You can survive for three hours without shelter

Flipping the channels a few nights ago, Julia and I stopped on CNN’s coverage of James Kim’s tragic death. The CNN coverage was a style of journalism, of creating the news “live”, I don’t like.

The coverage did include “the rule of threes”, which although I have basic military training, I was not familiar with the rule for without shelter.

The coverage did provide Julia and I a platform to talk about the events. It could happen to anyone.

For someone with such a strong dislike for generalizations, this is a surprising post.

Also, I think the third rules presupposes terrible conditions while the first two presuppose at least normal conditions.

Well many people would consider all three presuppose terrible conditions.

One seldom knows when the conditions will change.

It is not whether it is strictly true, a generalization, the value for me is it influenced thought and conversation.

i believe that the first rule is supposed to be 3 minutes without air because ive been outside all day and yet im here typing
