SHDH V1

My Bryght friends are hosting a Super Happy Dev House with my Socialtext friends in Vancouver this Friday from 1:00 PM – 1:00 AM.

SHDH Vancouver PosterWhat is SHDH you ask? It is software and other technology people coming together to collaborate in the style of the original San Fran Bay Area dev house:

“DevHouse is not a marketing event. It’s a non-exclusive event intended for passionate and creative technical people that want to have some fun, learn new things, and meet new people. In this way, we’re trying to resurrect the spirit of the Homebrew Computer Club. We also draw inspiration from the demoscene as one of the only intentional getting-things-done computer events in the world.”1

A little intimidated? Don’t be! These people are among the nicest technology people I have ever met!

Unfortunately, with getting moved into our own home (two sleeps so far), I won’t be making the journey myself — when is the next one?

2007-05-12 Update: Looks like an awesome event, though I want more media darn it (too early I guess). Ivan Schneider “[kept] the laptop holstered and take out the pad and paper to do some old-fashioned reporting” — fantastic work! Other media:

Free Geek Vancouver, “Ethical Computer Recycling” sounds like an amazing initiative! As does The Relocalization Network, but I am embarrassed to say I don’t completely understand what it is about — lots of big words.

  1. Hi, Lloyd and Roland. Sorry I didn’t stop by and say hi. It was a fun SHDH – some good hacking, a good venue, and nice folk. I misjudged the food situation, got there right after the first pizza, and was ready to faint from hunger before the second pizza arrived, so left for dinner before saying hello.
