Only via email

Photomatt blogged about Scooped by a Source. I like this part:

Did he have time for a quick interview? Sure, he replied, but only via email. I do all my interviews via email these days, he told her, to prevent myself from being misquoted.

Working for a small, very public company this past year I have had my most direct exposure to journalists. I have also had the opportunity to collaborate with many diverse people. I have sometimes been frustrated by professional journalists.

Only prevent misquoted? or also prevent himself from misspeaking.

I laughed out loud when I read “only via email”. If you are not in my circle of trust, I only communicate via email.

I am not great on my feet. I prefer reflection and writing to talking.

Life is not only via email.

Only via email seems fair. How many journalists allow you to review their article before publishing?

Journalists are likely too dependent on technology too, most interviews seem to be only via phone. They are not focused enough on the local story — their story. What about those journalists that do everything to get the story? Follow someone to their favorite hangout to get the story? Fiction?

What about knowledge that expires?

Maybe the world is too fast and only via email.
