My first snarking

I never was mentioned in the pathetic Flock Sucks blog during its life as one of WordPress.com‘s most popular blogs. Today, I had my first snarking by the silver standard [1] of valley snark, Valleywag:

The journo talked to Flock coder Lloyd Budd, who had trouble explaining the social browser his team is developing.

Meetro’s bowling league kick-off is a gutterball – Valleywag

I don’t think I had any trouble explaining what Flock is about in my own manner, but I am the first to admit that I prefer to reflect and write. Although I am not a coder, my marketing abilities are about as honed in my role in QA, Support and Community. I guess Bryan Veloso thinks I got tongue tied, or “[insert Flock employee's name] had trouble explaining [Flock]” makes a much better story.

I had a good time hanging out and hitting some pins. It already seems to be a success in bringing some web geeks together around something other than the Web and in a non-virtuaI setting. I am looking forward to this two month bowling “league”, though I was there for the bowling and socializing, not for any Meetro promoted hype — though I do like to see my name in print.

[1] Everyone knows that Supr.c.ilio.us is the gold standard, and likely an inspiration for Valleywag coming to the valley.

  1. Not be included in that bashing blog is a good thing. Playing in the mud may be fun, but who wants to deal with the dirt?

For whatever reason it sounds like the guy had trouble understanding you at that particular moment. Nothing inherently negative in that. It creates an excuse to boil your explanation of Flock down to its bare bones for the next such encounter.

Glad to see you are representing your Mayfair Lanes employment and league experience.

    Nice tags as well.

  2. Having stood right next to Lloyd during the entire time that he spoke to the Mercury news reporter, I know first hand that he had no troubles speaking of Flock. It was the rumour mill, and someone else’s comments after the event that lead to this incorrect post on valleywag. Personally erks me that “this person” would do this, but having spoke to Lloyd… there is no bad press, and Valleywag is known for being snarky.

  3. Ah good – nothing like a snarking to get your name out there.

I guess you need to get drunk and pick a fight for a notable review because outsiders (like me) find that “vaguely interesting” (yeah right).
