Hi Susan, sure I do. I had the great pleasure of working with Rob at Mercurial. He is a great colleague, and I miss working with him! I've passed on your email address to him.

I wonder why they don't update their website?

The last news update is:

news
June 06, 2007
Mercurial is hiring again! We're looking for contract Mac and Linux developers to work on a variety of über-cool projects. Please see our about us page for more information about these opportunities.

They must just be too busy in the transition. I can't see any advantage to not mentioning it.

Thanks for the follow up Chris. Andrew A. Duffy's Times Colonist article Software firm shuts operations seems to answer the questions circulating in the Victoria tech rumor mill.

From the article:

"It seemed the most integral thing that we could do is to make sure we found a much more solid home for our clients, and also make sure nobody lost their job," Coldwell said.

That is the Coldwell, I know, (but not as well as I would like to know).

Also from the the article:

Software development operation and clients transferred to OA Solutions.

Design operation and clients will also be merged into another company to be named later this week.

As late as 2006, Mercurial was ranked 30th on the Profit 100 list with revenues of $9.2 million and 115 employees -- miles ahead of its 1999 results, which showed $355,000 in revenues and five employees.

Coldwell estimates over an 11-year history, the company employed 300 individuals.

There's no bankruptcy involved. The Times Colonist did an article today, which can be found here.

I personally spent 7 years at Merc, and I wouldn't give that experience up for anything. I saw it grow from 3 to 140 people. Coldwell was passionate about building it into a unique, fun and dynamic environment, and about providing lots of opportunity for personal and professional growth to the employees. I certainly benefited from it tremendously, and I'm sure many others will attest to a similar fondness.
