Thanks Greg for the insights!

The "malformed URL case" seems like a very minor bug to me. My search for such a bug @ bugzilla.moz found a few bugs, and appears to be first described by URL guessing overguesses. I created some a relationships with another bug, "keyword feature shouldn't trigger if "http://" was included".

It is ironic that a # of mismatched bugs demonstrated
http://http://...
.

Provide UI for configuring/disabling keyword.URL functionality is interesting as it describes some inner workings of the relevant functionality. internet-keywords also seems relevant.

I wonder if URI fixup happens after "open link in new window" as if the address was typed by hand still repros (in trunk/head). ?

I want to confirm some of these things in trunk/head, before I update any of these bugs with my opinions.

Thank you Greg for perking my interest further.

The default 'just type some text into the address bar' behaviour on Firefox is 'give me the I'm feeling lucky' result on Google. Top result for 'http' on Google is Microsoft.

Not quite sure why a malformed URL like http://http://www.flock.com/home/about exhibits the same behavior, but I'm guessing it's related to the above.
