Firefox 3 was released this week, download it and have a better web browsing experience while supporting open and innovation software development!
As I know from my own experience dabbling1 in web browser development, it’s an incredibly challenging undertaking. Using Firefox 3 is the most polished, rich browsing experience!
- I worked for a short time on both Netscape 8 and Flock [↩]
There’s also a beta of Flock based on FF3 out at http://www.flock.com/beta/download/ Been rockin my world so far.
It is a really good browser, but for some reason, it seems slower than the beta version. I dont know why…
I downloaded Firefox 3 the day it was released and I was impressed. It is much faster than it used to be, especially with javascript intensive websites.
I did read the other day that a security bug was discovered in FF3. The Firefox team is currently working on a fix, reportedly.
The nice thing about Firefox and other open source programs is that when a bug is discovered, the developers work on a fix right away. Microsoft can take 6 months or more to issue a patch for their buggy Internet Explorer.
I won’t even get into IE’s adherence to web standards.
One more thing I’d like to mention about Firefox 3: It now has the ability to enable and disable plugins like Flash on the fly. A badly authored Flash advert can really bog down a browser. I don’t have that problem anymore. I surf with Flash disabled and if I visit a site with a Flash item I want to see, I quickly enable Flash. It’s a very nice feature. I used to use FlashBlock, but don’t see much need for it anymore.
Indeed a very good browser. The option to place tags on bookmarks is something I have been missing for a long time. I hope that the hype about Firefox3 will spur even more cool plug ins for browsers.
dfl – I agree. Long waits are so aggravating. Something the machine of Microsoft will always have trouble with, stating nimble.
I’ve been impressed with FF3 as well.
Glad to hear that I am not the only one who has found FireFox to be so much better than the other browsers that are out there these days. My sister turned me onto it last month and I’m ever so grateful that she did, just wish that she had done it sooner.
If you haven’t tried it, you really should give it a try and see for yourself, it only takes a few moments of your time and will in the end save yourself a lot of time and aggravation!
Respectfully,
