I found a gem of a blog the other day, Darth Mojo. It is written by BattleStar Galactica Visual Effects Designer, Adam “Mojo” Lebowitz. The blog’s tag line is “the dark chocolate side of the force”. As well as in depth BSG insider info, he geeks out on Star Trek, Star Wars, and all things sci fi.
Every day I’m surprised again by the incredible experiences, knowledge, creations, and collaboration people are sharing online. I can’t help be proud that WordPress and WordPress.com are so often the publishing platform.
Mojo’s about page reads:
Naturally some of what you’ll find here is related to what I do all day, which is essentially make spaceships fly around and explode. I’ve worked (if you can call playing with spaceships work) as a Visual Effects Supervisor and artist on projects such as the legendary Babylon Five, the not-so-legendary Star Trek: Voyager and, currently, the soon-to-be-legendary Battlestar Galactica.
If you’re a fan of any of these shows, check back often since I plan to dust off my personal archives and share all kinds of never-before-seen goodies with you. I may even take some memory-enhancing drugs and see if I can finally get down on paper all the interesting, wacky and downright flabbergasting experiences I’ve had over the years. If I do my job right we may even get a few cease-and-desist letters!
Wow, he demonstrates his (racy) wit! His articles live up to the promise of both being fun and providing unique perspective — not to mention the many original images.
A month and a half old, Darth Mojo started with an geektastic adventure in New York (he has an article dedicated to the NYC Best Buy). He has written about many geek entertainment movie events: Iron Man. Indiana Jones, Speed Racer, and Star Wars birthday. I’ve enjoyed the most the posts about Star Trek and GSB, and hope posts on Babylon Five are coming.
His post this past Tuesday “BSG VFX: “Guess What’s (not) Coming To Dinner†has shots from the BSG episode that were cut and an original video.
His most recent post “The Best Star Wars Movie You’ve Never Seen” is about independent (“fan”) edits to the first two Star Wars Prequels by professional film editor Mike J. Nichols. Mojo writes
“Attack of the Phantom†is easily the best prequel movie to date, and I cannot recommend strongly enough that you track it down.
Check out Darth Mojo!
Thanks for this Lloyd – I’ll definitely check it out!
