Petty

I have been tripping out lately about the problems of the world, many influenced by our American cousins. I am fragile and this “stuff” affects me. I can’t help, but feel that most of what I am most passionate about is petty.

Contributing to free culture and open source takes the edge off, and helps me feel grounded. The other half, the greater half, is my Julia, family and friends (including all of my Automattic colleagues, local friends, and fellow contributors). I am very fortunate.

“Hot sexy photos” Surprises!

I have been very pleasantly surprised by the strange result of all the people “reading” my post “Sexy Pictures”, “Hot Photos” when I first noticed I added ads. As I result I will get a first check from Google Adsense next month for over $100 to donate to charity!

I previously noticed a small influx of “readers” when I posted e-tst.com Porn Link Spam Blogs, but I did not have any ads on my site at the time.

The last times it was inadvertent, but I guess this time it is what is called search engine bait.

A lot of the “Sexy Pictures”, “Hot Photos” traffic is coming from a search engine called starware, which most sites say is adware/spyware/malware or at the very least difficult to uninstall.

They made funny comments asking for photos, “in our country sexy web sites are filtered please send me a lot of very very hot sexy pictures&films Iam irany.” I only moderated one, because they were off topic.

Of course these visitors don’t stay long as I have no hot, sexy photos or pictures. 60% of my little traffic comes from search engines, 90% of my visitors are first time visiters, 75% of every visit leaves after viewing a single page.

I did not even know that netscape.com still had a search box. I am currently the top result there for “hot sexy photos”. What a strange world.

Thank you for helping humanitarian charities! I will give you an update when I have received the check and made the donation.

Mark Towfiq leaves Flock

Mark Towfiq Mark Towfiq, Flock Vice President of Engineering and Product Development, departure was “announced” today after 1.5 years leading Flock browser development.

With any personnel change in a senior role of a small company, you can expect some change in the direction and execution. Mark had the most important job at Flock, so I expect big change.

Anti-Israel = Anti-Semitic

“Singling Israel out, among all the nations of the world, for a boycott is obviously anti-Semitic in effect, if not necessarily in motivation.”

I would not have described myself as Anti-Israel, and definitely not anti-semitic, but reflecting on it, I have been quite negative in my thinking towards Israel. Why have the people of Israel’s crimes seemed worse to me than Palestinians’ crimes?

The answer is obvious once I think about it, I am beating up the good people. I don’t mean that the Palistinians or other Arabs are the bad people. I mean, Israeli culture feels closer to my own culture, and therefore I feel I can relate to their values and therefore their crimes, but “singling Israel out, among all the nations of the world” is wrong.
