The other nite I watched the movie Clint Eastwood’s High Plains Drifter. As some of you know I have been on a bit of a Clint Eastwood kick. This movie did not disappoint, but it was definitely a sickly twist from some of Eastwood’s other wild west movies. My three favourite Eastwoods are still: Unforgiven, The Outlaw Josey Wales, and the original Dirty Harry. Then there is Eastwoods’ amazingly bad movie, The Guantlet.

What I imagine you are more interested in is Monday’s ultimate. Boy did we stink! When the team was not teasing me about how huge I have become — yes, I know I asked for it :-p — we were playing ugly ulti. It has been a long time since I fumble and dropped the disk as much, misread my check, and the disk. But I was in good company. Possibly with the exception of Kelly, I cannot think of anyone that did not mis-handle the disk, and/or through up trash. Near the end we got in a bit of a flow, and, new to our team, Norm brung it! Even when Norm was tripping, kicking out his own feet, flopping on his back — hmm, maybe there is a pattern here — he was making amazing catches.

I am excited by what lays ahead (pun intended) for both teams :-) and @play !

Another weekend approaches it’s end. Only a month away from being halfway through 2002. For my own benefit, I will make an honest attempt to post to my public journal, or weblog [sic] at least once a week. A non-eventually weekend, but a solid one.

Friday, a day of work capped by an arm workout with my Daw(g), Erwin. It included mad negative preacher curls: all extension, buddy does the curl for you. Woh! My legs were still fatigued from Wed’day ulti. We played hard, but there was winter rust on our joints. The other team had luck on their side, but also brought the skill. We have a couple new players. Once, they are not feeling so lost, the flow should be good. Our handlers had a couple of turn-overs near our goal line up wind — nasty. Looking forward to a great season with this excellent group of ppl.

Saturday morn was Dragon Boat practise. Miso, Vic, Matt, and I were almost on time. It did not matter though, as the organizors, for the 1st time, were also a bit late. I tried the left side, as my bench mate Lester, also new to the sport, has not been grooving on the left side. The water was chill, and the brisk wind did not assist. The practise was exhausting. We continue to have problems on the left side. I shoved my fellow in front, Alain, a number of times. Still, I felt I was in good time, but my timing could not have been right as my fellow behind, Mike Luu paddled me in the elbow a few times. We also got schooled by our other boat in a mini race. We will simplify and bring it together.

My house mates, particularly Matt, have been absolutely nacternal. O the good ole days. Miso and I were thinking about going to an all nite dance party, aka a rave, some time in the next couple of months.

Today I worked starting @ 8am. After work, my time was sucked up messing with X Window mgr & ssh on Mac OS X & Red Hat 7.3, other Mac OS X Fink pkgs, looking @ docbook, xml, and Extreme Programming. Greg sent me some interesting info on Python related topics. I am still a little overwhelmed by finding effective, free development tools for the gURLinka project.

Monday should be a quiet day work as it is Memorial Day in the US, our main customer. Looking forward to the 1st game of the season with Colon Dash Right Parentheses, aka :-) , my Monday night team. It will be excellent to play again with my team from last year.

Prairie Sky

My first post is only going up today as blogger did not want to play nice.

I am hard at work as always.

On this gorgous Friday afternoon, I was daydreaming a little about my upcoming trip to Brandon, Manitoba. This sparked a instant message conversation with my colleague Jennifer C. She made it all the harder to get the work I have to get done. She made comments like “take a deep breath of that fresh prairie air for me (sigh….)”, and when I countered that it cannot compare to the Pacific or Atlantic Canadian coasts she countered “but when you combine it with a big cloudless blue prairie sky, a shimmering flax field, a golden canola field and riping wheat…that you can’t beat!”. She is not the 1st to comment on the sky and the sunsets, and the possibility of seeing the Northern Lights for the 2nd time in my life. Although, not a usual vacation spot, I cannot wait!
